Save Our Species Project

As a summer digital humanities scholar from Lafayette College, I wanted to conduct my reaserch project on endangered species across the globe. However, in order to narrow my focus I decided to look at the top 5 countries that had the highest number of endangered species. These top 5 countries are Ecuador, the United States, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Mexico.

Part 1 ~ Data Collection

Using the IUCN Red List for endangered species I was able to identify the number of endangered species in each country, deduce which five countries had the most, then identify which two threats posed the greatest risk to endangered species by each country.

Part 2 ~ Analysis

Using scientific journal articles and sources such as the world bank I was able to find information on environmental impacts, pollution statistics, deforestation percentages by country, etc. I then compared these factors to the different threats that each country was facing.

Part 3 ~ Generating my Digital Tool

To generate my map I used Tableau public. I chose to use this tool because I like the way it appeared visually and I really liked that I was able to customize the filters.
