Schomburgks Deer
The deer schomburgk's originated in Central Thailand (Asia). Unfortunately, this animal went through extinction because of the human population. During the years of 1932 to 1938 this specie was heavily hunted. Even though, it is thought that the last deer was hunted in 1938, the specie was officially listed as extinct in 2006. Nevertheless, some scientist believe that this animal still exist.
On the other hand, the habitat for the specie was swampy plains with long grass, cane, and bushes. They lived near a region of central thailand where chao Phraya river was passing through. Furthermore, this animal avoided dense vegetation and woodlands. The specie of deers ate grass, reeds and other vegetations that were found in swamps that slowly were disappearing and making a hostile environment to this beautiful creature.
Moreover, a contribution to the extinction of this specie began when Thailand people needed to produce more rice to export. This business opportunity occurred in the transformation of these grasslands which turned them into paddles of rice production, which lead to destroying the environment where this specie lived. Therefore, the continued decline in the area where these animals could live and the quality of the destruction of their habitat accelerated the extinction process. Unfortunately, large grassland and swamp areas in which these deer depended on were destroyed by humans, as well as these animals being hunted without any protection measurements. Predators such as tigers and leopards also affected the possibility of the specie to survive. All of the burdens put in this creatures did not contribute in their conservation. Maybe, the extinction of these deers could have been prevented by preserving the environment to keep an ideal habitat. Thailand environment protectionists or leaders of this country could have gotten involved to prepare a program to help the specie survive. Also, another way to protect these deers could have been by restricting the hunting of these deers and applying limits. Furthermore, programs for the reproduction of the specie could have been made. In addition, the government could have protected the environment by not allowing the use of those lands for the production of rise, or by restricting a decent area where the animal could have lived. Furthermore, when these deers where decreasing in number, a program to keep the animal in captivity could have helped, better studies of the animal could have been performed and the specie would then be more protected from predators and humans.
