The Bush Dog

The Bush Dog is a animal that is decreasing its numbers of species.They are getting harmed in many different ways that are making them become exctinct.It makes it difficult to help them.

Humans have been hunting these animals.Plus their livestock is plummeting which can make it hard for them to survive.There are threats like the housing and urban areas,wood and pulp plantations, hunting and trapping, invasive non-native/alien species/ diseases.Their threats are very misunderstood.It makes loss of habitat for farming, loss of prey species, and an increase in diseases.The loss of prey is due to the illegal hunting,so a way to help these dogs is to find a place for them that is safe like a zoo,so we can keep them from dying out.If we can rescue some of them from the wild, the people who hunt these animals won’t be able to kill them if they can’t get them

Bush dogs usually are found in Central and South America.But they are actually very rare to be seen, except for in Suriname, Guyana, and Peru.Still they are extremely hard to find in the wild,making it hard to estimate how many are alive at .They think by the dogs genetics that their living relative is the maned wolf or the African wild dog.The bush dog is listed at near threatened in IUCN.

The bush dog lives in lowland forests,semi-deciduous forest, seasonally flooded forests, and the wet Savannah’s.Their life span is up to 10 years at most.For food they mostly eat birds or small mammals.They are known to smell like vinegar so that led to there nickname as the vinegar dog,

The population is decreasing and probably at an alarming rate.Although they have bush dogs in zoos, If it doesn’t stop decreasing it will become a completely extinct species.Hopefully we can save this species for becoming extinct.
